Filmed in 2021, this ritual was part of my process honoring the loss of my grandmother Elizabeth and engaging in ancestral healing for my maternal lineage. All of the objects pictured — the rug, the tray, the basket, the paintings — were my grandmother’s sacred objects that held her connection to the motherland. As descendants of Armenian emigres from Anatolia, my mother, grandmother and I have worked together to re-connect and repair our lineage through our practices of art, dance and culture.
